Ava dares to ask the big questions and is looking for the answers. Is there any sense in existing? Is it all just in our imagination? The inspiration from the nature in northern Sweden and the rumble of the city makes the music flow like a river; softly undulating with roots in jazz and improvised music. With Swedish lyrics the group shape their very unique sound; naked, intimate and melodic. All music is written by Nils Andersson, guitarist and composer originally from Vindeln in the north of Sweden.
2014 in Malmö, Sweden: In a one-room apartment surrounded by the noise of traffic and the throbbing of pubs, guitarist Nils Andersson began to long for home in Vindeln in Västerbotten. To channel his homesickness, he began composing music containing equal parts longing, sadness and everyday observations. This was the start of Ava.
Ten years have passed and much has changed, but Ava retains its signature: forward-looking compositions with flowing guitar work and intricate melodies that navigate the borderland between jazz and folk. Behind the soft sound world of these compositions lies a subtle complexity that makes Ava sound like no other band. On "Älven och havet", the band’s latest album, songwriter and lyricist Nils Andersson presents nine original compositions that in both text and music reflect the present and his upbringing in the inland of Västerbotten.
